EATING OUT
So you’ve just arrived in Tarifa and your starving! Where do you go? Here’s my list of favourite places, it’s by no means definative as there are lots of places I haven’t explored, but this list should keep you busy for a week or so.
1. Anca Curo
Hidden away down a side street this is a true Andalucian meat eating experience, if you didn’t know it this part of Spain is famous for black pigs, if you go up into the hills around Tarifa you’ll find them wandering around completely free, that is until they end up on your plate. Anca curo has a famous dish the Solomollio de cerdo which will be one of the tasteiest pieces of meat you’ll ever eat in your life. The eating is at the bar only which means you’ll be standing or be perched on a stool, always good with real atmosphere and character. A tarifa must ! Not great for vegies though

2. Quattro esquinas
A great little bar which does a small menu of tastey dishes. I love the prawns on a squewer here and
the patas bravas. A local favourite of he sherry drInking farmers. Lunch and breakfast

3. La tribou
The best pizzas in the world …. Well possibly. a chilled out surf bar serving pizzas and beer. A Great place to go if you want something ample and quick, make sure you ask for the chilli oil. Good service , very popular , cheap and they do take away. What more could you want always good. Evening only
4. Cafe central
The heart of Tarifa cafe central is probably the first place you end up if you arrive I the day time and every where else is shut. The food is good here if know what to eat. I personally always head for the tapas counter on the bar top, here you’ll find the tastiest things to eat. I also love breakfast check out the central breakfast ( desayono central ) it’s a great start to the day orange juice, coffee toast, egg and bacon.
All day

Cafe Central Tarifa
5. Morilla

Consistantly good food Spanish food here , great fish and meat dishes served all day and night. The american beakfast is the closest you’ll find to a full English breakfast if your feeling slightly jaded from the night before.

6. Bar Frances
I love the food here, Spanish quisine well cooked, always good, a great Lunch & evening spot in town, served by a friendly frenchman..A must

.
7. Vaca Loca
Consistently great food here not Spanish but really wholesome good grub, a smallish menu of dishes but there all fanastic. Mainly barbaqued meat , thick juicy argentine beef and a few veggie dishes. Very popular and limited seating so get there early. !
Lunch and dinner

VACA LOCA
8. Juan Luis
20 ways to eat a pig, this place is legendary. A true gastromonic experience I love it here, but be warned come here absoulutlety starving because the owner likes to give you plenty of courses. There is no menu, he just serves you what he likes, don’t come here if your a veggie. The surroundings are interesting to a cross between hammer house of horror meets the High Chaparral . You’ll either love it or not
9. Delicatessen
Here you’ll find exquisite Spanish food set in a lovely quiet plaza. The food here is definately a cut above the average with a price to go with it. Great at all times of the day you can munch upon the finest Spain has to offer in cured meats cheeses olives and so on. They also do a great menu del dia at lunch time ( 2pm in Spain) which is good value. Highly recommended.

10. Pesquerderia
Which basically means fish restuarant. Some of the best fish in town here always good if you fancy a fishy experience. Lunch and evenings . Recommended

A great place to eat fish
11. La Cabaña de Ana
I love this liitle place for quick tastey eats on a show string. It’s an extremely popular small bar where you’ll be perched at a bar seat if your lucky served by Juan who used to live in bornemouth many many years ago. They do a fantastic little rolls with pork, chicken and all sorts of tastely fillings, these are called montaditos. They also do great chorizo , cheeses and mushroom dishes. My personal fave is lomo al curry served with a cold tubo ( tube of beer translated litterally) all for very little. A top place ! Evening only, very popular

12. Bossa
Right on the corner of the street where I live this place is an extension of my living room …..well sometimes. It’s a great bar for breakfasts where you can get musli yogurt and fruit if your tired of the unhealthy Spanish breakfast fodder.
It’s a great place to meet people , do bussiness in the mornings on your laptop whilst having your cafe con leche . Danielle is a great source of info , so if you want to know anything about where to go to sunbath when it’s a force 10 or whatever check Bossa out. ALSO it’s happy hour at any hour if you book through holidaytarifa.com so you can get sloshed at any time of the day. What more can I say.
